Previous Employment Requirements: Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler.

Required Skills/Experience: Intermediate/Stepdown Level RN: 1 year of nursing experience

-Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments.

-Will accept first-time traveler if greater than 1 year of experience.

-1st time traveler must have EPIC experience.

-Previous experience with our types of patients below, including IMC/stepdown acuity and Neuro

-Ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, chest tubes, trach care (no fresh traches), NGT tube placement and management, JP drains, line management – PICC/Midline/CVL/PIV placement, wound vacs (Wound Care RN will change out the vac but RN must know how to assess and will need to change to wet/dry dressing in case of malfunction), wound care/dressing changes, medication administration, TPN/tube feeding, blood product transfusions, urinary and fecal collection devices

Preferred Skills/Experience: Post neuro-intervention experience - education and resources are provided by the unit if they have not had this patient type

Types of Patients on Unit: This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg.

-Surgical: Urology, prostatectomy, bowel obstruction, mass removal, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, general abdominal surgeries

-Ortho: Total joints (knees/hips/shoulders), Ortho Trauma – External fixation, soft tissue injury and minor fractures

-Neuro/Spine: CVA/TIA with Neuro Vascular Intervention – coiling, clipping, potentially thrombectomy (may go to ICU but if they are stable could come back to ONS) – modified ratios with this patient (CRN/flex RN will help to manage in immediate post-op time frame)

Seizures/Epilepsy, brain tumor, hematoma, brain aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, AV Fistula, craniotomies with burr holes and/or shunts, Halos, Flaps

-General Medical: cellulitis, influenza, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, rib fracture, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, DVTs, UTIs

-Wound care/Wound debridement, telemetry monitored patients

-Spinal Surgical - Laminectomies, Fusions, Discectomies

Unit/Facility Details:

-Beds: 64: spread across 2 floors

-Free Parking

-Audits are done monthly for Pre/Post pain scoring-Must meet 90% compliance with audits.

Special Requests:

Shift & Scheduling: 6-week schedules

-Weekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends, which include Friday, Saturday and Sunday

-On call: No mandatory call time. If it is an extra shift on top of their already guaranteed hours, and we have enough staff then they could be placed on call for that shift.

-Holiday Expectations: must be RTO request prior to offer – at this time Holiday RTO is not being accepted

Orientation:

2 days of unit/department orientation including policies, protocols, department information, online learnings. Also, classroom time with our Nursing Professional Development Team.

2 orientation shifts on the unit working with a preceptor

Floating Requirements: Any Adult Inpatient Unit - Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, Observation

-Could be floated within scope of practice and below

-Will float in rotation with other travelers
