Additional Details:

Scheduling: Expected to work every other weekend, every other holiday where applicable.

Block booking and Schedule patterns are based on department needs.

Monday - Friday, 0630/0700 - 1500/1530

Call: 1-2 nights per week, every 4th weekend

OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift; Nonbillable Orientation hours: 12; Guaranteed hours will not apply during orientation.

Types of procedures required:

  • Provide hemostasis to reduce potential for fluid volume deficit by clamping and/or Iigating vessels, using electrosurgical or laser units, applying direct pressure, applying chemical agents that promote coagulation and other means as directed by the surgeon.
  • Provide exposure of the operative site by appropriate use of retractors, by placing and moving the retractors when necessary, with awareness to anatomical structures. Exposure is also provided by the appropriate use of other instruments, suctioning and sponging. Using surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose as directed by the surgeon.
  • Handle all types of tissue appropriately to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply. Suture skillfully all varieties of tissue with appropriate suture materials and suturing techniques. Assists in closure of wound or independently closes wound under the direction of the surgeon. Assists surgeon in identifying structure that should not be ligated. Functions as second assistant based on availability. Monitors patient care activities for the purpose of quality improvement.
  • Specialties include ortho, general, urology, podiatry, ENT, OB/GYN, ophthalmology

Two years of experience in the OR with expertise in multiple specialty areas. Specialties include ortho, general, urology, podiatry, ENT, OB/GYN, ophthalmology

Dress Code: Scrubs provided

Primarily outpatient, ambulatory patients. Also included inpatient urgent/emergent patients.
