Births per day: Average 9/day, 250 a month, 3000 per year.
Patient Ratio: Facility tries to follow AWHONN guidelines; 1/1-2, 2 patients is common
Types of Patients: 28 weeks and above, lot of HTN, 7-10% no prenatal care, high Spanish speaking, tele monitoring.
Spanish speaking would be great.
Required Skill / Experience: Must be able to do a vaginal exam (if come from teaching facility-they have less skill since medical students/residents do these).
Scalp electrodes, Circulate a C-section, Newborn transitions, Assist anesthesiology, IV starts, Blood draws
APGARS assignments - must know
Postpartum hemorrhage control
SIM lab coming - fall 2023, Epidurals, Amnio infusion.
Water birth - not a must have, just for knowledge
RNs required to titrate drips: Magnesium, Pitocin, insulin, blood
Preferred Skill / Experience: Experience spinning babies
Technology Used on Unit: CPN Centricity
Shift & Schedule: Weekend Requirements: 3 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule - Saturday / Sunday
Holiday Requirements: Typically 2/3 holidays, includes eve/day of.
Will be On-Call-as much as you like, not mandatory.
Low Census On Call
Floating Requirements: NICU/Peds/Womens as well as MedSurg or ICU with appropriate patient assignment - downgraded, or RDU
L&D nurses may be assigned antepartum patients - They have to be able to take care of baby for two hours after delivery. If they do not have post partum experience they won’t be sent there but they have to be prepared that they will take care of antepartum patients.
