Travel Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Unit

ER float positions will require floating between different ER satellite locations in the area. A home base facility will try to be established, however this may not be the facility the clinician is regularly at. A schedule will be made in advance, so clinicians is aware of what location they'll be reporting to.

Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained.

Resume: Each employment history entry must include all the following: detailed duties, hospital size, unit size, trauma level (if applicable), patient ratio, teaching facility.

Required Skills/Experience: Recent med/surg experience

Preferred Skills/Experience: Charge nurse experience; telemetry experience (in case they float to other units within the hospital) no to first time travelers

Required Credentials:

• candidate is required to pass DYS exam PRIOR to accepting. 2 attempts, if failed, DNU for 6 months with CS AZ and Sac Region
• Pass fail exam on day 1 of orientation - details to follow SIMs Lab: All RNs will be expected to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes, with the exception of NyICU & ED. NyICU only has to do Foley catheter insertion. ED does Foley catheter insertion but does port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change. This is for travelers going to St. Joseph main campus &/or St. Joseph Westgate campus. NOTE - SIMs lab is pass/fail & nurses have been termed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field. Those travelers that understand sterile field typically pass SIMs Lab skills (See separate notes for the specific checklist IF traveler asks for additional details). The hospital expects that every nurse is competent in these areas, especially maintaining sterile field, as these are nursing skills that are performed frequently. NOTE: if a candidate indicates that they are not competent in either of these areas, they are probably not a good fit. In addition to SIMs Lab, they will also go through lifts, restraints, & wound care, but these are just educational based since the equipment & policies can be different facility to facility.

Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit: Post op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, infection

Unit/Facility Details: # Beds 22 private rooms

Special Requests: Travel Teams must have their own vehicles

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend Requirement 3 weekend days per pay period, same requirement for travelers; Weekend days are Sat/Sun, Holiday Required

Floating Requirements: Other med/surg/tele areas; travelers are first to float. ICU RNs take ratio of 1:3

Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: Cannot have worked at any CommonSpirit location within the last 12 months.
