Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
Travel experience is required from any number of months.
24 months of Labor & Delivery Unit experience is required with some in the last 24 months.
Experience with Epic is preferred from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months in order to be considered for this role

If you have a multistate license, you will be required to complete a 1-time 6-hour suicide prevention training according to WA state regulations.

Guaranteed Hour: 36

Scheduling:

  • Shift times: 0700-1930 & 1900-0730
  • Schedule cycle: 4 weeks
  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend as needed
  • Holiday Expectations: depends on shift, 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday
  • On call? If so, what is that schedule? L&D takes 24 hours of call per 4 week schedule period
  • RTO: As part of our program, we approve up to 7 days of RTO

Floating: L&D floats to Mother Baby. Mother Baby floats off the unit if needed.

Beds: 25 LDRP, 3 Obstetrical emergency room beds, 6 post-op/antepartum beds (4 rooms double occupancy)

Patient Ratios:

  • Labor: 1:1-2 (dependent on stage of labor and acuity)
  • Mother Baby: 1:3 couplets (dependent on patient acuity)

Patient Types: Antepartum, Laboring, post-partum. We have a level 3 NICU so take patients that require a higher level of care.

Skills required:

  • Labor and Delivery: Independent IV starts and lab draws from IV start, accurate vaginal exams, provide labor support, fetal monitor strip interpretation according to NICHD guidelines; We typically do not assign travelers to the triage role and do not require them to circulate unless they have previous experience; Can be 2nd RN in OR if they have experience and are comfortable with OR.
  • Mother Baby: Assessment of postpartum patients both vaginal and post-op c-section, & antepartum. Assessment and admission of newborn. Assist and assess breastfeeding needs; Will occasionally have women post-surgical patients i.e., hysterectomy.

Scrub Color:

  • Provided scrubs are navy blue, but Mother Baby is permitted to wear their own scrubs.
  • L&D is expected to change into scrubs at the hospital.
  • May wear their own or hospital provided if on the floor but must wear hospital laundered in the OR.
