Requirements
Experience
24 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
24 months of Neurologic Intensive Care Unit experience is required.
BSN completion preferred
Experience with Epic is required from any number of months.
References

Additional Details:

Required Credentials:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS/HCP
  • Must pass EKG exam with 80% or better during orientation

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • CRRT experience highly desired
  • Previous Queen’s Health System travelers highly preferred

Floating Requirements:

  • Travelers float to ICU, Stepdown, and Telemetry based upon facility needs

Special Requests:

  • Requested Time Off (RTO) is not permitted during the initial contract period

Unit Details:

  • The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU – QET 4D/5D) at The Queen’s Medical Center - Manamana is a 17-bed all-private-unit, including 2 isolation rooms and 2 hemodialysis rooms, split between 8 beds on QET 4D and 9 beds on QET 5D. It operates 24/7 with coverage by a Neurointensivist and Neuro Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.
  • The unit also supports overflow medical, surgical, and cardiac ICU patients. Specialized services include continuous ECG and EEG monitoring, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring, cooling therapy, orthopedic therapy management, mechanical ventilation, BIS sedation monitoring, and use of specialty beds (lateral rotation, kinetic, and prone therapy)

Types of Patients on Unit:

  • The NSICU serves pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.

Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit:

  • Common diagnoses include post-operative neurosurgical and neurointerventional cases, traumatic brain injury, intracerebral hemorrhage (SAH, SDH, EDH), spinal cord injury, ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, brain tumors, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, status epilepticus, and DBS brain mapping.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Rotating 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
