Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
Must have at least 12 months of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit experience.
BSN completion preferred
Experience with Cerner is preferred from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months in order to be considered for this role
License
Candidates must have a Maryland license or compact license

Previous Employment Requirements: Return Staff Policy If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of 1 year to return as a traveler.

Required Skills: IV therapy, Accessing Ports, Arterial line management, Blood Product Administration, Central line care/management, PICC line management, Starting and maintaining IVs, Assist with Chest Tube Insertion/Removal, Assist with management of BiPAP, Assist with management of CPAP, Care of Ventilated Patient, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs), Suctioning (ETT, NT), Ventilator Management, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), ECMO, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Post Cardiac Surgery (directly from the OR), Pre/Post Cardiac Cath/intervention, Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring, Sheath Removal, Transcatheter Aortic Valve implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR), Valve Replacement/Repair, Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD/RVAD), CVA/Acute Stroke management, External ventricular drain (EVD), Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, Emergency Medications, Titrate Cardiac drips, Titrate Vasoactive drips, Infection Prevention, Isolation Precautions/ Use of PPE, Phlebotomy, Surgical Wounds with drains/Wound Vac, Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Management of dysrhythmias, Obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG, IV insulin protocols, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Burns, Thermoregulation: hypothermia/hyperthermia, pacer/temp pacer/ transvenous pacer

Preferred Skills: Lumbar drain

Required Credentials: References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Patient Diagnoses: CAD, AS, MS TS, PVD/PAD, PE, MI, CHF, DM

Special Procedures: CABG AVR MVR Structural Heart Procedures: TAVR,Triluminate, Encircle TCAR, EVAR, Carotid endarectomy, Wedge procedures, TEE/Cardioversion, Transposition of basiliac vein, Fem/Pop bypass

Types of Patients on Unit: Adults

Equipment Used on Unit: Chest tubes, Rapid infuser, Blood warmer, CRRT, Transvenous pacer, Lumbar drains, vents, IABP

Total Staffed Beds/Rooms: 8

Special Requests:

Block Schedules: No

Shift & Scheduling: 36hrs or 48hrs

On Call: 4 call shifts in 6 week schedule

Weekend Requirements: Every Third Weekend

Pre-Approved Time Off: 2 Requests
