Travel Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit

Previous Employment Requirements:

• Two professional references are required. At least 1 reference must be from a manager/director or someone in a formal leadership capacity (e.g., a supervisor). Charge RN acceptable for 2nd reference. No coworker references accepted. References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more.

• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any Ohio State University hospital location.

Required Skills/Experience: PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, Respiratory, Tracheostomy care/management, Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Management of dysrhythmias, Telemetry -on the unit monitoring, Screen missing requirements.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Oncology Experience

• Cardiac Telemetry, MS/Tele, Chest tubes-Emerson/PleurEvac, External CPAP/BIPAP, Nocturnal CPAP/BiPAP.

Required Credentials:

• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program.

• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Facility accepts a minimum score of 76% regardless of Angoff score.

Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit:

• Patient Diagnoses:

• Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma
• Hepatobiliary: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine
• Colorectal: colon, rectal cancer
• Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma

• Special Procedures/Unit Details: Chemotherapy, Blood transfusions, IV Antibiotics, Oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, Insulin drips, Heparin drips, Chest tube care, Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls.

• Ortho surgery, Cardio Thoracic surgery, Need 3s and 4s in surgical exp for Pass.

Types of Patients on Unit: Adults, Geriatrics

Equipment Used on Unit: B450 monitors GE telemetry system, Bladder Scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds

Unit/Facility Details:

• 36 Beds; 36 Rooms

• James Surg Onc is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients. This is a very busy surgical floor. All perm staff is PCU trained.

Special Requests: Pre-Approved Time Off: One Request

Shift & Scheduling:

• Weekends - Variable based on unit needs.

• No set/blocked scheduling as that is not something offered to the permanent staff.

• Self-schedule requests - You will enter your schedule requests so we can see your preferred schedule before balancing and posting the final schedule

Floating Requirements: Float to other acute care Oncology units.
