Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
Must have at least 24 months of Emergency Department experience.
BSN completion preferred
Trauma Level 2 experience is preferred from any number of months
Experience with Cerner is required from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 3 years in order to be considered for this role
License
Candidates must have a Maryland license or compact license

References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Previous Employment Requirements: Return Staff Policy: If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of 1 year to return as a traveler

Required Skills: General Emergency Department-Combined Adult/Pedi, Conscious Sedation, Telemetry, Vents

Pediatrics: Abdominal pain, Asthma, Head injury, Hyperglycemia, Identifying and reporting abuse, Infections, Mental/behavioral health conditions, Near drowning, Poison ingestion, Respiratory infections, Seizures, Sickle cell crisis, Urinary tract infections.

Psychiatric: Acute psychosis, Drug overdose, Managing violent behavior, Psychiatric Hold, Suicidal patient.

IV therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood Product Administration, Central line care/management, Phlebotomy, Starting and maintaining IVs.

Respiratory: Chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, Intubation, Ventilated patients.

Medications: Continuous IV paralytics, Continuous IV sedation, Emergency Medications, IV vasopressors, Procedural Sedation Administration/Monitoring.

Neurological: CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident).

Work Settings: General Emergency Department-Combined Adult/Pedi.

Shock/Trauma: Management of patient with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.

Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response: Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Management of dysrhythmias, Obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG.

Professional Topics and Skills: Isolation Precautions.

Orthopedics: Manage / apply splints.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Teaching Hospital Experience, LTAC Experience

Preferred Skills

Pediatrics: Burns, Epiglottitis, Skin Disorders, Spinal cord injury.

IV therapy/Phlebotomy: Arterial line management.

Respiratory: Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs).

Neurological: ICP monitoring, Neuro-Trauma, Spinal cord injury, Traumatic Brain injury.

Work Settings: Level I Trauma Center, Level II Trauma Center, Pediatric Emergency Department, STEMI Certified Facility, Stroke Certified Facility.

Shock/Trauma: Gunshot wounds, Traumatic amputation.

Professional Topics and Skills: Triage.

Orthopedics: Ortho trauma.

Required Credentials: Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - From within the past 3 years and have a passing score of 80%

Types of Patients on Unit: Patient Age Groups: Neonates, Adolescents, Infants, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatrics

Unit/Facility Details: 30 Rooms, 44 Beds

Shift & Scheduling: Block Schedules: No

Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend; 6 weekend shifts in each 6-week schedule (Friday & Saturday nights).
