Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
Must have at least 18 months of Medical Surgical - Orthopedic Unit experience.
BSN completion preferred
Experience with Cerner is preferred from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months in order to be considered for this role
License
Candidates must have a District of Columbia license

BLS (Required)

Additional Details:

References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Manager may or may not interview. Clinician must be okay with this. If Clinician has questions, please email the AM.

Ortho / MS / Tele - Required

Shift & Scheduling: Block Schedules: No

Call: Yes - In turn with unit staff

Weekend Requirement: Every Other weekend; 50% weekends required

Required Skills / Experience: 1.5 - 2 previous acute care travel experience

Preferred Skills / Experience: Previous Charge Experience

Types of Patients on Unit: Orthopedics: Primary total joint (hip and knee) replacement, revision of total joint replacement, spine surgery, ankle replacement, total shoulder replacement.

Other: The patient population is mostly surgical patient overflow, but many have other comorbidities and may be followed by the medicine team or other specialty teams during their stay.

We care for many patients with complex medical diagnoses who are also undergoing surgical procedures.

Patient Population: Adults, Geriatrics

Equipment Used on Unit: PCA pumps, Epidural and Perineural PCA pumps, Ketamine, Lidocaine infusions for pain management, High Risk Drips: Heparin, Continuous Pulse Oximetry

Unit Details: Busy surgical Orthopedic unit with patient length of stay ranging from 1-5 days.

Total Staffed Beds: 402

Daily Census: 26 - 30

Others: 36 or 48 hours available

Pre-Approved Time Off: 1 Request

Orientation: 48 Hours

Special Requirements: Minimum 4 years nursing experience if first time traveler

Return Staff Policy: If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of 1 year to return as a traveler.
