Patient Types: Pediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age and adult overflow (stable medical – s/p appendectomy, s/p cholecystectomy, cellulitis, etc.). The diagnosis of these patients varies from respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries. The general surgeries may include ear/nose/throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma. Advanced Care Pediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care services. The most common disease entities you may care for in our Advanced Care Pediatrics Unit include but are not limited to:?acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases leading to major organ system dysfunction, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, toxic ingestions/exposures, trauma, hematologic and oncologic disease.
Patient Ratios: General Pediatrics - 1:5 Advanced Care Pediatrics: 1:1-2
Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Skills required: Physical assessment of patients, ages 0 – Adult
PICU experience – ability to titrate drips and care for the mechanically ventilated patient.
Floating: yes feeder/growers – 1:3 ratios
Orientation: (facility and unit) 1 day facility orientation to include online and in person training 2 days unit orientation with preceptor
Weekend rotation: Every other
Will they be on call I May be placed on low census/on call
