We treat the ED as any other med-surg unit. We do initial evaluations and then continue with treatment the next day if they have not been assigned to a room yet.
Patient Ratios: 10-12 per therapist

Skills required: Acute care experience
Floating: If yes, where? Caseload may consist of any area within the hospital (trauma, orthopedics, neuro, MedSurg, ICU) including ED
Orientation: 3 days orientation in department
During the first week or two we keep the therapist 1/1 with a Rehab Aide for extra hands and to help with orienting to the surroundings. After that, Rehab Aides are shared among the clinical staff.
We typically have 5-7 scheduled per day and use a group messaging app to communicate when we need help. For the evaluating therapists, much of the day is spent unassisted unless there is a specific need so that the Aides can assist PTAs with treatments.
Weekend rotation: Once per month
Holiday Expectations: May be asked to assist with coverage of Thanksgiving or Christmas. All other holidays are staffed as normal working days
Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
