Requirements
Experience
18 months of role experience is required from any number of months.
24 months of Progressive Care Unit experience is required from any number of months.
Experience with Epic is preferred from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months in order to be considered for this role
License
Candidates must have a South Dakota license or compact license

Guaranteed Hour: 48

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: Every other
  • Holiday Expectations: Every other
  • Approval of time off? Up to 7 days, must extend if taking a full week off. No time off the first (3) weeks of August annually (Sturgis Bike Rally)

Floating:

  • Primarily to our sister unit, General PCU – as needed
  • Could also be floated to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU level patients
  • Could be floated within scope of practice and below

Beds: 44

Patient Ratios - RN: 1:4 most of the time, can be 1:3 (acuity dependent)

Patient Types:

  • This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg
  • Direct admits, ED admits, Post Cath Lab, etc
  • MI, NSTEMI & STEMI (IABP would go to ICU), CHF, Dysrhythmia management, Pacemaker malfunction, Epicardial pacers
  • Backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow
  • Step down level experience with post cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac Cath patients, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, post pacemaker insertion

Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Skills required:

  • PCU level RN
  • Experience with Cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac Cath), MI pharmacology, titratable Cardiac/vasoactive gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) – please request manager approval if traveler does not have this, Heparin gtts, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes management, TNK administration (preferred)

Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
