Special Care Unit
Required Credentials: Driver's License/State ID
Types of Patients on Unit: Patients requiring intermediate care between ICU and med/surg levels.
Unit/Facility Details: Beds: 24, Nursing station is centrally located on the floor for easy access to all patient rooms. Unit has a "U" shape layout.
Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit: Common cases include post-cardiac procedures, stable ventilator weans, and telemetry monitoring.
SCU nurses are responsible for providing care to patients who require close monitoring but are more stable than ICU patients.
Nurses should be comfortable with telemetry, managing post-surgical recovery, and providing support for patients transitioning out of critical care.
