Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit: Patient Diagnoses: Patient Population Served: All patients requiring surgery. • Responsibilities include are but not limited to: ensuring supplies, timeliness of cases, communication with families, pre-op, and PACU, and physicians, updating preference cards, scrubbing and assisting during cases. • Assists in positioning/safety to patient. • Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis. • Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery • Documents pertinent information in EHR Special Procedures/Unit Details: Skill Mix: Registered Nurses, Surgical Techs, PCT’s, Scheduling Coordinators, and Materials Management Core staffing and methods for determining and modifying staffing to meet patient or process needs: The Operating Room uses a staffing mix to provide care for the surgeon/patient specific needs and qualification and competence of the nursing/technician staff available. Description of assessment and reassessment practices, including timeframes. The Operating Room staff will demonstrate: • Safe environment for patients • Assist Anesthesia with induction. • Assists with positioning, prepping and draping of patient. • Assures/maintains sterile field. • Participates in time- out immediately before start of procedure. • Collects and documents data in the medical record. • Notifies the appropriate member of the interdisciplinary patient care team of the issues that require immediate intervention or attention. • Appropriately labels medications. • Appropriately handles and labels blood and specimens. • Participates in a debriefing before the patient and surgeon leave the room including: o Confirmation of exact procedure o confirmation of count o confirmation of specimens labeled correctly o any key concerns for patient recovery.
Types of Patients on Unit: Busy OR with 17 rooms - population include Adolescents, Adults and Geriatrics.
