Corrections Health Unit - PCU - Required
Shift & Scheduling: D/N or Nights
Block Schedules: No
Float to various Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) units as needed and PCU units
Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements.
Will accept a 13-19 week assignment
Manager preference is to end 1/10, 1/17, 1/24 to assist with holiday coverage.
Preferred Skills / Experience: Previous Charge Experience
Oncology experience
Types of Patients on Unit: Patients with active oncology diagnosis/treatment including both solid tumor and hematology.
Patients who are admitted for oncology workup
Patients who have a history of cancer but are admitted for other reasons including but not limited to surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, abnormal labs, pneumonia, etc.
Patients with no oncology diagnosis but admitted for reasons listed above
Some shifts will be a MS assignment, and some will be a PCU assignment.
Skills and Competencies: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Unit-based telemetry monitoring
Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols
Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis and renal failure management
IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line and peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
Medications: Heparin protocols, management of cardiac drips (no titration), PCA (Patient-Controlled Analgesia)
Respiratory: External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), interpretation of ABGs (Arterial Blood Gases), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
Patient Population: Active oncology diagnoses/treatments, including solid tumors and hematology.
Oncology workup admissions
History of cancer admitted for other reasons (surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, abnormal labs, pneumonia, etc.).
Non-oncology diagnoses admitted for reasons listed above.
Patient Ratio: PCU - 1/3, MS - 1/4-5
Unit Details: Unit is a corrections unit for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates
Locked unit with access controlled by Corrections Officers (CO).
CO to inmate ratio: 1/2
Daily Census: 36
Others: Pre-Approved Time Off: 1 Request
Orientation: 72 Hours
RTO required with submission, must be built into contract
Previous Employment Requirement: Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any Ohio State University hospital location
