2 years of ICU experience; excluding travel experience is most preferred
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma – heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR – 24 to 48 hours post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this – given to permanent staff.
Patient Ratio: 1/3 is rare; acuity dependent
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing
Required: Comfortability working a 48hr/week contract – this is not negotiable for this unit
Skills Required:
Experience with the above-mentioned patients
If traveler has experience outside of this specialty - ICU RN qualified to float to ED, PCU RN qualified to float to ICU
Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, strong critical thinking and assessment skills, working well in team setting, comfortable in fast pace setting with all critical patients.
Impella, IABP and CRRT - Strongly Preferred
Floating: Not common unless overstaffed. Could float to any adult floor – including Medsurg/Tele with 1/4 ratio
Orientation:
Hospital orientation
(1) 12 hour shift and (1) 8 hour shift in the ICU
Scheduling:
Weekend Rotation: Every other - but not guaranteed
On-Call: No
Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays
No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year)
