Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
3 months of travel experience is required from any number of months.
24 months of Post Anesthesia Care Unit experience is required with some in the last 24 months.
BSN completion preferred
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 3 years in order to be considered for this role

Additional Details:

References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Manager may or may not interview. Clinician must be okay with this. If Clinician has questions, please email the AM.

Days/Evening staggered shifts 7a, 8a, 10a, and 11a,

On Call/Weekend Requirement: no on call requirement, weekend rotation included in schedule

Floating requirement: per competency within Pre& Post Op Departments

2 years of experience: Telemetry and Vents, PACU experience or combination of PACU and ICU or high acuity ED experience

Scrubs: All colors and patterns acceptable (no insignia from other institutions); 2 sets of periwinkle OR scrubs will be made available but are optional; takes at least 2 weeks to obtain OR scrub machine access

Travelers are required to work a full work week between/around RTO

PACU experience required for Main/Endo PACU contract. PACU experience preferred but ICU experience accepted for Endo PACU contracts.

Orientation Hours: 40

Patient Age Groups: Adolescents, Infants, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatrics

Patient Diagnoses: Pavilion PACU: Neuro (craniotomy, VP shunt, DBS, nerve stim), Spine (ACDF, fusions, XLIF, TLIF), Ortho (total joint replacement,, Plastics (DIEP flap, free flap), Limb Salvage, Transplant (PACU recovers kidney, kidney/panc), General, Optho, ENT, GYN Hybrid OR/IR cases, Neuro IR (cerebral angio, MMA embo), MRI Sedation Cases completed in iMRI

Special Procedures/Unit Details: 1. Pavilion PACU L1, 45 patients per day, mostly Ph I with occasional pre-op/Ph II during off hours, 70% inpatient, 5% pediatric, 95% adult, no neonates

Contracts for 12h shifts with staggered start times between 7a and 11a are available for 3 or 4 days/wk. Night shift 7p-7:30a contracts also available. Vast majority of shifts Monday - Friday

  1. Pavilion PACU L2 40 patients per day, mostly Ph I, but includes PhII of pediatric patients younger than 12yo. 30% inpatient, 70% outpatient, 20% pediatric, 80% adult, no neonates.

Unit is open Monday-Friday 7a-8:30p, and remaining patients and evening staff combine with L1 PACU around 8p.

Special Equipment: Ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, arterial lines, central venous pressure monitoring, EVDs set up with supervision from Neuro ICU RN, dopplers, Vioptix, bare huggers. 4 negative pressure isolation rooms in each PACU.

Return Staff Policy If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of 1 year to return as a traveler.
