Patient Types / Populations:
Infants-Geriatric patient population – they do not recover a ton of infants and would be trained on recovery of that population.
Endo – will help prep and discharge Endo patients but would not work Intra-Op
Ambulatory/Elective, Acute care/Trauma
Patient Ratio: Pre-Op 1/2-3, PACU 1/1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1/2-4
All ratios dependent on acuity levels, presence of airways, ages, comorbidities, or on any special monitoring, etc.
Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing
Required Skill:
Comfortability with Preop, Recovery and Discharge of patients.
Comfortability to have boarded patients if hospital census is full and there are no inpatient beds available.
These skills are needed in addition to competencies in the below.
Variable shift RN: May be learned in orientation, but competencies include: IV insertion, ventilator training, epidural/PCA set up/initiation, initiation of blood product transfusions, competency with administration and monitoring of moderate sedation (will not work Intra-op in Endo but would prep and recover), critical thinking
Floating:
Routinely: PreOp, PACU, Endo prep and discharge, Phase 2
Could be floated within scope of practice and below wherever needed
Orientation:
General facility orientation
1 weeklong orientation – 1 day in each department (PreOp, PACU, Phase II, Endo)
Scheduling:
Could be one of the following:
Days/Variable - 3 12’s per week (Days – shift would vary between 0500-2300)
Nights – 4 10’s per week (Nights – 2030-0700). If working nights, their 3 shifts would be scheduled in a row
Weekend rotation: Pre-Op/PACU staff have 4 weekend call teams, each caregiver responsible for a weekend call rotation every four weeks
Call Required: Each caregiver has a 2300-0700 call shift about every 3-5 weeks that is during Monday-Friday, in addition to their scheduled 36 hours
Then Each caregiver is also responsible for their designated weekend. These shifts will change throughout the contract period, but the requirement is a weekend call (varied hours Fri-Sun) every 4 weeks.
Response time is 15 minutes
Holiday Expectations: Holidays are rotated between call teams; all holidays are on call rotations. Will work (2) holidays per year.
Time off requests go through Manager
No RTO will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually (Sturgis Bike Rally)
