Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma – heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR – 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this – given to permanent staff
Skills required:
Comfortability working a 48hr/week contract – this is not negotiable for this unit
Experience with the above-mentioned patients
ICU RN qualified to float to ED
Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, strong critical thinking and assessment skills, working well in team setting, comfortable in fast pace setting with all critical patients.
Impella, IABP and CRRT – strongly preferred
Floating: If yes, where? Not common unless overstaffed. Could float to any adult floor – including Medsurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio. Confirm traveler comfortability during interview
Orientation: (facility and unit): Hospital orientation, (1) 12 hour shift and (1) 8 hour shift in the ICU
Weekend rotation: Every other-but not guaranteed
Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays
No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year)
