Guaranteed Hours: 36
Shifts & Scheduling: Shifts starting at 7. Will not guarantee block scheduling. Discuss with leader for any scheduling needs. Schedules out 6 weeks in advance.
Weekend Requirements Every other weekend. Sat. Sun for both shifts.
Holiday Requirements In the holiday rotation with core staff.
Call or a Standby requirement: None
Floating Requirements: Float to like units only. If floated to higher acuity it would be to work as a help all and not take a patient load.
Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Neuro- laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI, belly surgery-ostomies, hernia repair, joint replacement-total hips/knees. PICC, TPN, Lipids. Fem pop bypass, dialysis catheter insertions, BKA, AKA. DM (dialysis is also located on the 3rd floor) PCA, some epidurals, iv abx, chronic pain (narcotics), sepsis, urgent OR cases.
Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have total joint experience. Understanding of PCA pumps, reversal drugs (narcan), sepsis management. Experience with TPN/ Lipids. Narcotic usage. 1 year of experience- surgical experience required.
RNs are required to titrate drips - Heparin. Common titratable &/or set rate drips Titrated per protocol.
RNs to interpret strips.
Unit/Department Specific Orientation 1- 12 hour shift on shift of hire and unit of hire. First day is 12-14 hours to do comps, computer based modules, general orientation.
Additional Notes fast paced, heavy patients. Can get 8-12 surgery admits per day as well as discharging patients at time.
