Requirements
Experience
24 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
Must have at least 24 months of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience.
BSN completion preferred
Experience with Cerner is required from any number of months.
References
Candidates must provide 2 manager/supervisor references from within the past 3 years in order to be considered for this role
License
Candidates must have a District of Columbia license

Additional Details:

Previous Employment Requirements: Return Staff Policy: If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of one year to return as a traveler.

Required Skills/Experience: Will accept first time travelers if they have at least two years in level III.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Previous Charge Experience

• Teaching Hospital Experience

Required Credentials:

• NRP Advanced

• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam

Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit:

• ELBW, Surgical infants- hernias, PDA ligations, Atresia's, TEFs, gastroschisis, central lines, etc.

• Pulmonary Hypertension, Total Body Cooling, Sepsis, ECMO-inhouse specialists only.

• Respiratory Distress, HIE, Birth asphyxia

Types of Patients on Unit: Neonates

Equipment Used on Unit: GE cardiac monitors, Alaris IV pumps, Med fusion syringe pumps, Trend monitors, Accu check for glucose checking, GE Giraffe Omni beds, GE Giraffe isolettes, AEEG machines, Total body cooling machines, Neopuff, Cerner Charting, Bridge Breast Milk and Blood Management

Unit/Facility Details:

• 33 Beds; 402 Staffed Beds

• CCN 1: An intensive care nursery for premature and full-term babies who need ventilator support, surgery, or a variety of special medical tests or procedures.

• CCN 2: An intermediate care nursery for babies who have graduated from intensive care but need close observation and medical attention, such as heart monitors, IV fluids and medications, NAS babies, babies that need to grow, or to learn to eat on their own.

• References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Special Requests:

• Manager may or may not interview. Clinician must be okay with this. If Clinician has questions, please email the AM.

• Proof of Identification: Driver's License/State ID

Shift & Scheduling:

• Weekend Coverage: Every Other Weekend

• Weekend Requirement: Six Shifts in a 6 Week Schedule

• Rotating shifts can vary between switching between days and nights within the same week and/or working a few weeks of days and then a few weeks of nights.

• Pre-Approved Time Off: One Request

Floating Requirements: C-51 peds Transplant, PEDS, and PICU
