Travel Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit

RNs only - Clinicians who obtained RN degree outside of the U.S. and do not hold MO/IL/Compact license require extended licensing and compliance timeframe.

Shift & Scheduling: Every 3rd weekend

• Unit Details:

• Beds: 12

• MS/Tele, Medical, Surgical 1:5-6

• 8 bed step-down unit (not open at all times)

• Types of Patients on Unit:

• Patient Population: stroke only, cardiac (cardiovert, pacemaker) no open heart

• high population of overdose

• Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics

• Complex medical and surgical patients requiring intensive care

Required Skills/Experience: Vents, IV Start, Telemetry. Proficient with Ventilators, medication titration

Floating Requirements: Float required - possibly to MS/Tele, medical, surgical unit, intermediate care

Procedures/Diagnostics/Treatments Performed on Unit: Central line placement, bronch, peg tube, cpap/bipap, CRRT, post arrest cooling protocol, IABP

• Cardiac: Acute MI, new onset dysrhythmia, hypertensive emergency, unstable angina with hemodynamic instability, status post cardiac arrest.
• Pulmonary: acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation including NPPV (BIPAP), pulmonary embolus with hemodynamic instability, massive hemoptysis, new onset hypoxia.
• Neurologic: acute stroke with altered mental status, coma, status epilepticus, acute change in mental status, neuromuscular disorders with neurological deterioration, administration of Tenecteplase (TNK), and acute care of post-thrombolytic treatment for stroke.
• Gastrointestinal: symptomatic GI bleeding with presence of shock, uncontrolled bleeding.
• Endocrine: Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) with hemodynamic instability, altered mental status, respiratory failure, or PH greater than 7.10. Thyroid storm/myxedema coma with hemodynamic instability.
• Drug Ingestion and Overdose: Drug ingestion with hemodynamic instability, coma, inadequate airway protection, or uncontrolled seizures. Drug withdrawal requiring critical care intervention.
• Severe Sepsis: Two or more systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) symptoms including temperature greater than 100.4 or less than 96.8, heart rate greater than 90, respirations greater than 20, WBC less than 4000 or greater than 12,000, WBC greater than 10% bands, and confirmed or suspected infection and signs of organ damage.
• Lactate greater than 2.
• Shock: Any severe sepsis symptom plus persistent hypotension and lactate greater than 4.

Previous Employment Requirements: All Standard Travelers (reside outside of a 75 mile radius) can stay for an 18 month period. Must take a 3 month break after 18 months.
