Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers not accepted. Experience with the unit's patient populations required, including neonate through geriatric ED patients, trauma, stroke, and sexual assault cases. ESI assessments during triage required. Will consider 1.5 years of ED experience excluding travel if accompanied by 2 years of experience outside of ED.

Preferred Skills/Experience: 2 years of ED experience excluding travel experience is most preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler. Time off requests require manager approval. No requests will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually.

Unit Details: Cares for neonate through geriatric patients with minor to critical ED presentations, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, GI bleeds requiring emergent blood products, heavy trauma, stroke, pediatric critical care, and cardiac patients. Vertical care area is used for a waiting/holding area, ESI 3 and ESI 4 patients, and higher-acuity overflow depending on ED flow. Travelers are expected to take sexual assault patients and perform evidence collection in rotation with permanent staff, including buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviews; pelvic exams are not performed. Uses Omnicell and Alaris. 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physician coverage, hospitalist coverage for admitted patients, NP coverage, radiology/CAT scan, pharmacy tech support, and security on the unit. Could be expected to precept students.

Shift & Scheduling: Variable shift start times may include 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700. If working variable shifts, will not work both days and nights in the same week. Could potentially work every weekend, depending on staffing. No call. Holidays only if needed.

Floating Requirements: Could float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas only as a task nurse and not take an assignment. Could be floated within scope of practice and below.
