Special Requests: Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed. If the candidate worked at a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from the perm facility. Cumulative experience applies for previous travelers. At least 1 reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job being applied to. Can only apply to 1 position at a time across the entire WVU system. Previous perm candidates must have been away for 2 years. Previous travelers who worked there for 1 full year must have been away for 2 years. Travel teams must be submitted together.

Required Skills/Experience: Basic EKG interpretation required.

Unit Details: Medical/surgical/trauma step-down population including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, complex trauma patients, respiratory-compromised patients, reconstructive plastic surgery with microvascular free flaps, advanced diabetic management for type 1 and type 2 patients, general surgical interventions, and complex wound management. Provides a higher level of care for patients requiring 24 hour hemodynamic monitoring. Ratios vary: 3:1 for step-down and 1:6 for med/surg. Titrates drips including cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone; no sedative drips on the step-down unit. Uses BiPAP, CPAP, chronic vents not being weaned, in-ceiling lifts, and video monitoring for patient safety. All beds are monitored, and tele techs are in a central location. Typically staffed with nurse aides; usually 3 aides for 24 patients.

Shift & Scheduling: Weeknights and weekends. Weekend requirement may be every other weekend depending on staffing. Holidays are scheduled on a rotational basis. No call.

Floating Requirements: Floating is done on a rotational basis with other staff members on the unit, and travelers are included in the rotation.
