Required Skills/Experience: C-section experience required. Must be proficient in fetal monitoring and the actions taken for fetal distress. Must be able to care for patients with pre-eclampsia. Clinical background in high-risk patients. Since there is not an in-house OB, nurses must be very proficient with assessment skills and able to handle OB emergencies until the provider arrives. Must be able to function in L&D and couplet care; LDRPs may be used as couplet care beds when census is low.
Required Credentials: Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring required.
Unit Details: Uses Allscripts. Respiratory therapist on unit 24/7. Support staff includes patient care technician, health unit secretary, and OB scrub tech. 24/7 pharmacy in house.
Shift & Scheduling: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule minimum; weekend distribution is flexible as long as coverage is maintained. One call shift per 4-week schedule.
Floating Requirements: May float to ED or MedSurg if experienced; may float to other units within the hospital, usually MedSurg, if needed.
