Travel Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted only with greater than 2 years of experience. PICU experience with the ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients.

Required Credentials: Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Time off only if pre-approved.

Unit Details: Works across both General Pediatrics and PICU. General Pediatrics cares for patients 0-18 years of age and adult overflow (stable medical - s/p appendectomy, s/p cholecystectomy, cellulitis, etc.). Diagnoses vary from respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries including ear/nose/throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma. PICU cares for patients 0-18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care services. Common disease entities include acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases leading to major organ system dysfunction, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, toxic ingestions/exposures, trauma, and hematologic and oncologic disease. RN ratios: General Pediatrics 1:5; PICU 1:1 for mechanically ventilated or titratable drip patients and 1:2-3 for stable PICU patients. RNs and nurse aides draw their own labs. RNs start their own IVs, with ultrasound available for difficult IVs. Support includes RT, hospitalist coverage 24/7, pediatric pharmacy, and pediatric social work/case management. Uses Omnicell and Drager vents.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend. May be placed on low census/on call. Holidays as required.

Floating Requirements: May float to NICU (feeder/growers, 1:3 ratios) and General Pediatrics (ratios up to 1:5).
