Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must have majority of cardiac experience (heavy cardiac unit).
  • Must have 1 year of Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN experience.
  • Must have drip experience.

Special Requests:

  • Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained.
  • Must take a full 6 months off from any Sanford Health or Good Samaritan Society location as well.
  • Previous Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months before submission.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not always guaranteed.

Unit Details:

  • Patient ratios: average 1:5 day/evening; 1:5-7 nights (average 6; must be okay with 7 patients).
  • Up to 75% of patients can be cardiac, including pre/post caths, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs, and other procedural cardiac cases; also sees CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow strokes.
  • RNs titrate drips; common titratable/set-rate drips include insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and lasix.
  • Tele techs are stationed elsewhere and provide 24/7 monitoring; nurses have a monitor on the unit to check rhythms.
  • Charge RN generally has patients but not a full assignment so they can serve as a resource.
  • Nurse aides available; average 1:9 day/evening and 1:14 nights if full.
  • RT/equipment includes continuous CPAP and BiPAP, high flow, Vapotherm, nebs, and chest PT; no vents.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).
  • Every other holiday.
  • No call.

Floating Requirements:

  • Floats generally to other Med/Surg floors; float rotation is used for fairness. May need to float outside the Med/Surg cluster, especially for a patient observer 1:1 need; if the clinician has other specialty experience, they may float there.
