Travel Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit

References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Required Skills/Experience:
2 years in Stepdown in an acute care setting is required without exception.
Must read and interpret telemetry strips.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation is provided if needed.

Unit Details:
This is a cardiac stepdown unit. Unit 4A focuses more on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery, while unit 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients.
Telemetry monitoring uses Philips equipment.
Common drips include titrated Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, renal-dose dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprisol.
Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP during hours of sleep, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen; full ventilators are not used.
Common cases include post-op day 1 CABG; cardiovascular surgery such as fem-pop procedures, arteriograms, carotid endarterectomies, thoracotomies, VATS, EVARs, AAA repairs, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICDs, CABG with pacer wires, and adenosine cardioversions; common diagnoses include CHF and atrial fibrillation with RVR, with frequent chest tubes.
Hospitalist or intensivist coverage is in-house 24/7; a PICC team, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy are available 24/7.
Rooms turn over quickly; on busy days, the clinician may discharge and admit 12-16 patients in one shift.

Shift & Scheduling:
Every other weekend.
Must be flexible to work holidays and days around holidays as needed.

Floating Requirements:
Floats to the ICU but takes only stepdown patients unless the clinician has ICU experience and the contract notes that ICU floating is permitted.
If unable to take ICU-level patients, the clinician may be asked to task in the ICU.
