Required Skills/Experience: 3 years of ICU experience with 1-year CVICU experience. First-time travelers accepted if they meet the above criteria. Competent in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, TV), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Specific CV surgical experience preferred: ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD.
Special Requests: RTO requests may be approved for up to 7 days.
Unit Details: Cardiac patient population includes immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous). Thoracic surgeries include fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, and lobectomy. Vascular cases include fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy. RN ratios: 1:1, 1:2 if regular ICU status, 1:3 mixed status. RNs draw from invasive lines only; peripheral sticks are not allowed. Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring; no tele tech. Phlebotomy assists with peripheral blood draws. Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and GE monitors.
Shift & Scheduling: Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Every other weekend. No on-call. Holiday expectation: 1-2 per contract. 6-week schedule cycle. Cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Floating Requirements: May float to ED Holding (boarded patients waiting for an inpatient bed), other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (ratio 1:3), sitter assignments, and PACU surge.
