Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere may result in being sent home and/or terminated. If the candidate worked at a permanent facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from that permanent facility. Eligibility as current/previous employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers. References: At least 1 reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job being applied to.

Required Skills/Experience: Must be able to manage a 6-patient med-surg assignment or a 3-patient stepdown assignment.

Unit Details: Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs; primarily medical diagnoses. RNs titrate drips per orders. Common drips include heparin, insulin, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN. CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow, and vents are seen on the unit; patients needing vent setting adjustments go to ICU. Remote telemetry surveillance and central monitoring are available on the unit; RNs are not expected to read their own strips. Uses Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment. Charge RNs and house supervisors are available 24/7; charge RNs may take an assignment when the unit first opens, with the goal of a free charge RN. Clinical Associates (nurse aides) support the unit; goal staffing is 3 CAs at all times.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend. Expect to work about half of all WVUH-recognized holidays. No call or standby requirement.

Special Requests: Block scheduling is not guaranteed, but requests will be accommodated whenever possible.

Floating Requirements: First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units.
