Travel Allied (Lab Tech) - Laboratory Unit

Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility.

Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.

Required Credentials:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or a related field.
Certification as a Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
CAP Technical Supervisor qualifications require either a master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science and 2 years of training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty, or a bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science and 4 years of training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty.

Preferred Credentials:
Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Management or a related field preferred.

Required Skills/Experience:
At least 1 year of experience in a larger, high-throughput laboratory is required.
Three years of laboratory experience in a supervisory or management position is required.
Generalist laboratory experience is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
Phlebotomy experience is a plus.

Unit Details:
The laboratory provides microbiology and clinical laboratory coverage, including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and some specimen processing.
Technicians assist with morning rounds and output overflow.
Directs, plans, and coordinates laboratory services in support of quality patient care.
Establishes specimen-preparation and analytical procedures; evaluates laboratory information; consults with pathologists; and reports results.
Maintains laboratory equipment performance through quality standards, troubleshooting procedures, instrument-performance certification, and equipment service, repair, or replacement.
Monitors workload and adjusts operations or staffing during peak and slack periods.
Participates in quality assurance and proficiency surveys; reviews quality-control and quality-assurance programs; and updates policies and procedures.
Maintains the laboratory information system, including user manuals, employee training, security, and confidentiality.
Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures.
Equipment includes Vitros 7600 and AU480 in chemistry; DXH800 in hematology; CA2500 in coagulation; Iris Workcell for urinalysis; and MicroScan, Cepheid, Verigene, and MDX in microbiology.

Shift & Scheduling:
Shift options vary by laboratory area: clinical laboratory shifts are 12s or 8s; microbiology shifts are 10s or 8s.
Weekend coverage is every other weekend unless every weekend is requested.
Holiday coverage is required.
No call.
