Required Skills/Experience: Adult MS/Tele experience required. Experience working with children is required. Must be able to care for adults as well. Must be able to read telemetry strips.
Required Credentials: You are required to pass a Basic Dysrhythmia/EKG exam during onboarding. Must achieve a minimum score of 80% within two attempts.
Special Requests: Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained. Cannot have worked at any CommonSpirit location within the last 12 months, including full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility. Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility.
Unit Details: Mixed adult and pediatric unit; adult patients may outnumber pediatric patients at times. Ratios: pediatrics 1:3-4; MST 1:5. Common patient population and cases include adult medical-surgical/telemetry patients with chest pain, MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD, pneumonia, COVID, total hip and knee replacements, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, and exploratory laparoscopy. Pediatric population includes respiratory illnesses such as RSV, influenza, and COVID, chronic seizures, dehydration, appendectomy, and failure to thrive. Pediatric patients are med-surg level only; no feeding tubes, trachs, or vents. Patients are stabilized for transfer if status changes. Nursing assistants may cover 10 patients; if no NA is available, the RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care. Administers high flow to stabilize for transfer and cares for stable adult patients needing BiPAP for chronic conditions. Adult MST patients use telemetry with remote monitor techs; pediatric patients have bedside monitors.
Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend; Friday and Saturday for nights. Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly. Standby rotation if low census.
Floating Requirements: First to float. Float to the MST unit on EC to care for adult MST patients if pediatric/MST census drops. Float to the MCU or MST unit to care for adult MST patients. Cross-train and float to the birthing unit to care for mom-baby couplets. Would not float to West campus. If experienced in labor and delivery, may also float there.
