Additional Information

Special Requests:
Must disclose previous employment on your resume or elsewhere within the submission for a DNU check.
Block scheduling may be available for night shifts; discuss in interview.

Unit Details:
The ER treats approximately 5 patients per day; when Med-Surg is full at 12 patients, each RN may take 6 patients.
When the ER is not busy, the RN takes a Med-Surg assignment as ER patients come and go, then returns to the ER.
ER holds are intermixed within the ER; there is no separate triage area or separate psych/seclusion rooms, and security is not in-house 24/7.
ER patients include pneumonia, cellulitis, dehydration, UTI, abdominal complaints, chest pain, and stroke. Med-Surg patients include acute-on-chronic conditions, occasional surgical patients, swing-bed patients, COPD, diverticulitis, acute kidney injury, hypomagnesemia, dyspnea, pulmonary embolism, and some outpatient orthopedic patients.
Common drips include heparin, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, norepinephrine, and Protonix; staff may mix additional critical-care medications using a mixing resource sheet.
Respiratory therapy is not available 24/7; RNs perform their own breathing treatments and EKGs.
RNs set up and operate the Hamilton ventilator and CPAP/BiPAP machines; a cheat sheet is available for the CPAP/BiPAP machines.
Telehealth is available to assist with critical-care patients; providers can assist, and EMS often remains to assist with bagging, CPR, or intubation.
No monitor technicians are available, so RNs read their own cardiac strips. EKG machines are GE and vital-sign machines are Mindray.
Lab and X-ray are on call, and no transport is available.
RNs may draw labs if comfortable; otherwise, lab staff draw them.
The charge nurse takes an assignment, and the RN may need to fill in as charge when no permanent RN is staffed.

Shift & Scheduling:
Self-scheduling is available; the manager works with travelers to balance shifts, and staff are willing to trade shifts.
Try to do every other weekend.
Try to do every other holiday.
No call for night shifts.

Floating Requirements:
Nurses float among Med-Surg, ER, Pediatrics, and Swing Bed.
