Additional Information

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Strong experience required with high-frequency vents, conventional ventilators, iNO, trachs, NIPPV/NIMV, CPAP/BiPAP, IV fluid management including drips, hemodynamic support, post-op care, whole body cooling, admissions, IV placements, lab draws (heel and venous), wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, CVL dressing changes, IV fluid changes, titrating IV fluids, ABG interpretation, medication calculations, and assisting with intubation, LP, PICC placement/dressing change, umbilical line placement, and chest tube placement.
  • Full-time Level III NICU experience is required. Floating experience is not acceptable.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Level IV NICU experience is highly preferred.

Required Credentials:

  • Dr Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required; may submit with it pending. Cost is $200.
  • Any hit on your license must be disclosed. Hits will be sent to UVA leadership for approval prior to proceeding.

Special Requests:

  • Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away.
  • Unable to approve time off Labor Day weekend.
  • Cannot approve time off the first two weeks of assignment.

Unit Details:

  • Neonatal and infant patient population.
  • Patient population includes extreme prematurity (22 weeks and above), IUGR, RDS, BPD, TTN, PPHN, pneumonia, NEC, sepsis, all cardiac anomalies, neurologic, endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, skeletal, and genetic anomalies, ROP, NAS, hypoglycemia, jaundice, and FTT.
  • Admit all infant cardiac patients; they go to PICU after open chest surgery.
  • Patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU and 1:3 for stepdown.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week.
  • 3 weekends of the 6 week scheduling period; every other holiday.
  • Can approve 40 hours max for time off.

Floating Requirements:

  • Required to float to catch and transition newborns in L&D, newborn care in MB/PP, infant care <1 y.o. in Peds, and infant care <1 y.o. in PICU.

Details:
