Required Skills/Experience:
Full-time Level III NICU experience is required. Floating experience is not acceptable to fulfill this requirement.
Strong experience with high-frequency vents, conventional ventilators, iNO, trachs, NIPPV/NIMV, CPAP/BiPAP, IV fluid management including drips, hemodynamic support, post-op care, whole body cooling, admissions, IV placements, lab draws (heel and venous), wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, CVL dressing changes, IV fluid changes, titrating IV fluids, ABG interpretation, medication calculations, and assisting with intubation, LP, PICC placement/dressing changes, umbilical line placement, and chest tube placement.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Level IV NICU experience is highly preferred.
Required Credentials:
Dr Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate is required; may be pending at submission. Cost is $200.
Any hit on your license must be disclosed. Hits will be sent to UVA leadership for approval prior to proceeding.
Special Requests:
Cannot approve time off the first two weeks of assignment.
Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away.
Unit Details:
Neonate and infant patient population.
Patient population includes extreme prematurity (22 weeks and above), IUGR, RDS, BPD, TTN, PPHN, pneumonia, NEC, sepsis, cardiac anomalies, neurologic, endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, skeletal, and genetic anomalies, ROP, NAS, hypoglycemia, jaundice, and FTT.
Admits all infant cardiac patients; patients go to PICU after open chest surgery.
Patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU and 1:3 for stepdown.
Shift & Scheduling:
Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week.
3 weekends of the 6 week scheduling period; must work 2 out of the 3 winter holidays.
Can approve 40 hours max for time off.
Floating Requirements:
Float to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum/MB, and L&D as needed, including catch and transition newborns in L&D, newborn care in MB/PP, and infant care for patients under 1 year old in Peds and PICU.
