Required Credentials:
ASCP or equivalent certification required.
Unit Details:
Responsible for identification and processing of tissue specimens received in anatomic pathology.
Assigns sequential accession numbers and records patient identification, demographic, specimen source, and physician or surgeon information for each specimen received.
Assists the pathologist with gross examination by preparing accurately labeled tissue cassettes, loading and operating the tissue processor, and providing assistance as requested.
Processes embedded tissue blocks, cuts sections, stains specimens, and delivers prepared slides to the pathologist for daily microscopic examination.
Assists with frozen section preparation immediately after specimens are received in the histology department.
Performs special histochemical staining procedures and completes them within the timeframe requested by the pathologist for timely diagnostic reporting.
Prepares slides and anatomical material for consultation or processing by other laboratories.
Files indexed tissue slides and blocks for storage and efficient retrieval, retains slides for the required period before discarding, and rotates stored patient specimens as needed.
Shift & Scheduling:
Monday-Friday.
Holiday coverage required.
