Unit Details:
No fast-track area is available.
Travelers are not typically assigned triage duties.
Admission holds are intermixed with ED patients, and ED nurses manage their own holds.
There are no separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms.
In-house security is available.
Typically 70-85 patients are seen per day, including 60-70 adults and 10-20 pediatric patients.
Common presentations include abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, chest pain, sepsis, cerebrovascular accident rule-outs, and predominantly fall-related injuries and trauma.
Uses Epic.
The ED has ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high-flow capabilities.
Respiratory therapy completes ABGs and breathing treatments; ED RNs and ED techs complete EKGs.
All rooms are capable of cardiac monitoring. No monitor tech watches the monitors; nurses monitor them from the nurses' station when not in a patient room.
Radiology is near but outside the ED; ED and radiology staff share patient transport.
ED nurses perform draws for 95% of orders.

Shift & Scheduling:
Weekend requirement: Every third weekend.
Holiday requirement: Two holidays per year (one winter and one summer); Easter is on its own rotation.
No call or standby requirement.

Floating Requirements:
Floating is only to the pediatric ED; no floating to inpatient units.
