Travel Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit

Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility.

References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Special Requests:
Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.
Candidates can only submit to one position at a time across the entire WVU system.
Previous perm candidates must be gone for 2 years.
Previous travelers who were there for 1 full year must be gone for 2 years.

Required Skills/Experience:
RNs need basic EKG interpretation; monitor technicians read the telemetry strips.

Unit Details:
The unit cares for a medical-surgical and trauma population, including patients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, complex trauma, general surgical needs, and complex wounds.
The unit cares for respiratory-compromised patients, including chronic ventilator-dependent patients; respiratory care includes BiPAP management, blood gas interpretation, and tracheostomies.
The unit cares for reconstructive plastic surgery patients requiring microvascular free flaps and provides advanced diabetes management for type 1 and type 2 patients.
Patients requiring 24-hour hemodynamic monitoring receive a higher level of care on the unit.
RNs titrate common drips, including Cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone; no sedative drips are used.
BiPAP, CPAP, and chronic or non-weaning ventilators are used on the unit.
All beds are monitored by telemetry; monitor technicians are based centrally and read the strips.
Video monitoring is used for patient safety.
In-ceiling lifts support early patient mobilization.

Shift & Scheduling:
Every other weekend.
Holidays are scheduled on a rotational basis.
No call.

Floating Requirements:
Floating is done on a rotational basis with other staff members on the unit. Travelers are placed into the rotation.
