Required Skills/Experience:

  • Prior CV critical care experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, and fem-pop bypass) within a year.
  • CVICU experience.

Unit Details:

  • Primary patient population includes CV surgery and vascular surgery cases such as open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. Also receives overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses including heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.
  • Typical procedures include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV Glucommander, and cardiac gtt management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine).
  • Uses Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • No call.
  • Minimum 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday day or night) per 6-week schedule period.
  • Must be flexible to work holidays.

Floating Requirements:

  • May float to any stepdown (1:5 ratios) or med-surg (1:6-7 ratios) unit, and ER inpatient holding area (1:6).
