Travel Nurse (RN) - Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Required Skills/Experience

• Experience with surgical patients, including CEA, fem-pop, EVARs, laparotomies, and thoracic surgeries, is required.
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.

Special Requests

• Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility.
• Must disclose previous employment on your resume or elsewhere within the submission for a DNU check.
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year. Candidates who were employed PRN through outside firms will be considered.
• Block scheduling is generally not available.
• Holiday time off will be considered but is not guaranteed.

Unit Details

• Postoperative recoveries are primarily vascular, including fem-pop, VATS, thoracic, and open-belly surgeries.
• The unit cares for ventilated patients.
• CRRT and ECMO are used, and line placements are common.
• A hospitalist or intensivist is in-house.
• There is no IV team; respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7.

Shift & Scheduling

• Every other weekend is required.
• Travelers will work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
• Holiday scheduling is ultimately determined by management.
• Overtime and extra shifts are available.
• Self-scheduling is used, but schedules are not finalized until the manager balances them.
• Schedules are released 4 weeks in advance.
• Travelers can access their schedules from home, make themselves available for extra shifts, and trade shifts with other staff.

Floating Requirements

• The clinician is first to float to all other Sacramento facilities; mid-shift floating to another facility is rare but can happen.
