Preferred Skills/Experience:
3 or more years of ED experience preferred.

Special Requests:
We have a scheduler and try to do block scheduling.

Unit Details:
The cath lab is available Monday-Friday 0800-1700.
There is no Fast Track area.
There is a separate triage area. Travelers with extended contracts and triage experience, including education on the triage process, perform triage at times.
The ED does not hold patients; an inpatient bed is always available.
The ED has a psych/seclusion room with video monitoring but no audio.
Security is in-house 24/7 and floats throughout the hospital, primarily in the ED.
Approximately 40 patients are treated in the ED per day.
Patient ratios are variable; 3-4:1 is usually limited to approximately a few hours during peaks and valleys in patient arrivals.
Common patients include abdominal pain, falls, and chest pain; approximately 20% of volume is pediatric.
Common drips include antibiotics, cardiac, heparin, TPA, and insulin.
Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7, and the lab performs ABGs.
RNs perform 12-lead EKGs and read their own strips; Philips monitors are used.
CT and MRI are next to the ED. X-ray transports patients; the primary nurse or an ACLS-certified clinician transports patients on cardiac monitoring, and the CNA transports non-monitored patients.
If the nurse starts an IV, the nurse draws the labs; phlebotomy also draws labs.
