Required Credentials:

• If you have a multistate license, you will be required to complete a 1-time 6-hour suicide prevention training according to WA state regulations.

Special Requests:

• Any RTO or special requests not included on your application will not be considered.
• You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility.

Unit Details:

• Postpartum and low-risk antepartum patient population.
• Patient ratio 1:3-4 for antepartum patients or couplets.
• Breastfeeding assistance; newborn care including vital signs, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia management, bilirubin management, and care of NAS babies.
• Must be able to independently care for 3-4 couplets, provide discharge teaching, vaccinate neonates, perform thorough assessments and reassessments for both mothers and babies, and perform fundal checks on postpartum patients.
• Preferred: newborn lab and phlebotomy skills, adult IV skills, and experience with PKU testing.
• Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis.
• Charge nurse is in assignment with a lower patient ratio.
• Unit support includes lactation nurses 0730-1600 7 days per week, phlebotomy, RT 24/7, and in-house hospitalist/OB and anesthesia 24/7.

Shift & Scheduling:

• 3 shifts with preceptors; night shift orientation includes 1 shift on days and 2 shifts on nights.
• Every other or every third weekend.
• No call required; voluntary only.
• No blackout dates. Holiday requirement is at least one winter holiday and one summer holiday.
• 6-week schedule cycle; schedule is released 2 weeks prior or sooner. Holiday schedule is 12 weeks.

Floating Requirements:

• Float to L&D for antepartum or recoveries and to NICU for NAS and feeder growers. Closed pod to the birth center; voluntary med surg sitting only.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Breastfeeding assistance.
• Newborn care, including vital signs, thermoregulation, managing hypoglycemia, bilirubin levels, and NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome) babies. Newborn lab and phlebotomy skills and IV skills (adult) are preferred, as well as experience with PKU testing.
• Ability to independently care for 3-4 couplets, provide discharge teaching, vaccinate neonates, and perform thorough assessments and reassessments for both mothers and babies. Must also be able to perform fundal checks on postpartum patients.
