Travel Nurse (RN) - Direct Observation Unit

References must cover at least 1 full year of relevant experience in specialty within the past 3 years.

Required Skills/Experience

• Telemetry, MS/TELE, interpretation of dysrhythmias, starting IVs, and PICC line management are required.

Required Credentials

• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program.

Special Requests

• You must be able to complete labs within 48 hours of signing.
• OSU requires all fingerprints to be completed within 72 hours of signing a contract for an OSU assignment. This is a client requirement, and timely completion is essential to maintaining the assignment and avoiding delays, pushes or cancellations.

Unit Details

• Adult and geriatric patient population.
• Patient diagnoses and case mix include dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities, nausea and vomiting, chemotherapy/radiation symptom management, acute kidney injury, palliative/pain control, urinary tract infection, syncope, post-procedure patients (IR, GI, Pulm) requiring overnight stay, transition to hospice, PEG tube/line placement, and fever of unknown origin.
• Observation patients have anticipated stays of up to two midnights, followed by a disposition decision; the goal is high-quality, efficient care without premature discharge or admission.
• Patients are boarded from the ED and ICC in observation status, are stable and unlikely to require an upgrade in care, and have a goal of discharge in less than two midnights. Unit providers include APPs and supervising MDs.
• A charge nurse is included in the assignment; other available resources include RNs, PCAs, and UCAs.

Shift & Scheduling

• The assignment may be 12-hour nights or day/night shifts, per the traveler's preference.

Floating Requirements

• May occasionally float to the James ED to assist with inpatient Med/Surg tele patients awaiting transfer to their acute care unit. Orientation to the area will be provided.
• Floating may include other MS/Tele/Oncology units within the James.

All time off requests must be submitted at application. Scheduling requests must be worked out with the manager directly upon starting the assignment.
