Required Skills/Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of operating room experience, with at least 1-2 years in cardiac surgery.
Proficiency in first-assist techniques and sterile field management.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Demonstrated expertise in congenital cardiac surgery is highly preferred.
Required Credentials:
Completion of an accredited RNFA program.

Unit Details:
Provides surgical first-assist support for congenital cardiac procedures involving pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart defects.
During congenital cardiac surgeries, serves as the first assist to the surgeon, including tissue handling, wound closure, and hemostasis.
Utilizes advanced surgical techniques in line with surgeon preferences and patient needs.
Anticipates the surgeon's needs and helps ensure the operating room environment is optimized for efficiency and safety.
Collaborates in the preoperative assessment and preparation of patients for congenital cardiac procedures.
Supports postoperative care through wound management, recovery monitoring, and patient education.
Participates in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure continuity of care.
Partners with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and operating room staff to support seamless surgical workflows.
Mentors and educates nursing staff on congenital cardiac procedures and assistive techniques.
Shift & Scheduling:
OR coverage is needed Tuesday/Thursday for approximately 20 hours (10 hrs/day), plus an additional 4-8 hours Wednesday/Friday post-operatively; total 28-36 hours.
Call coverage is negotiable and would be overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday or Thursday into Friday post-surgery to cover overnight returns to the OR.
