Required Skills/Experience: 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year of CVICU experience. First-time travelers accepted if they meet the 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year of CVICU experience requirement. Competent in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Specific CV surgical experience preferred: ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD.
Unit Details: Cardiac cases include immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous). Thoracic surgeries include fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, and lobectomy. Vascular cases include fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy. RN ratios: 1:1, 1:2 if regular ICU status, 1:3 mixed status. Tech ratio: 1:8-10. RNs draw from invasive lines and do not perform peripheral sticks; phlebotomy assists with peripheral blood draws. Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring; no tele tech. Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and GE monitors. Charge nurse rarely has a patient assignment; HUC 24/7; dedicated CVICU intensivist 24/7; CT surgeon on call 24/7; hospitalist onsite 24/7; general intensivist 24/7; ICU-designated RT 24/7. Shift & Scheduling: Every 3rd weekend. No call. Holiday requirement: 1-2 per contract. RTO up to 7 days. 6-week schedule cycle; schedule released 1-2 weeks before the schedule begins. Cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Floating Requirements: May float to ED Holding (board patients waiting for an inpatient bed), MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU, MSU (ratio 1:3), sitter, and PACU surge.
