References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit.
  • Must have heparin gtt experience.

Special Requests:

  • Will block if it is possible with staffing.

Unit Details:

  • Day shift ratios 1:4-5; nights 1:5-6.
  • Common diagnoses/patient population: stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience patients, and some medical overflow.
  • RNs titrate heparin drips based on PTT.
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available; ratios are 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights.
  • High flow for stable COVID patients only.
  • House-wide telemetry; nurses do not read their own strips. Uses Philips monitors.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Every other weekend; Saturday and Sunday are considered the weekend for both shifts.
  • Every other holiday.
  • No call.

Floating Requirements:

  • Float in rotation with the rest of staff. General unit travelers float to general unit floors and take a full team. If floated outside the general unit for urgent need, assignments are limited to skills the clinician is competent to perform and paired with a nurse trained for that unit.
