Travel Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit

Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

Required Skills/Experience:
Overall strong neuro experience is required.
A history of caring for stroke patients is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
EVD experience is preferred.

Special Requests:
If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility.
Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.
References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.
Former permanent employees must have been gone for 2 years.
Previous travelers who were there for 1 full year must have been gone for 2 years.

Unit Details:
Patient ratios are 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:5-6 for the EMU floor.
The unit cares for higher-acuity neuroscience patients, including EVDs, strokes, EMU, seizures, and craniotomy cases.
Permanent staff would probably be assigned EVD patients.
Any patient that would be 24 hours post-TPA would be managed by permanent staff only.
Titration is only done by physician's orders in a step-down setting. Some protocols may allow titration, with education provided.
Common titratable and/or set-rate drips include amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, Nipride, ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and insulin.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Floor ventilators are usually on a set setting and are managed by respiratory therapy and a physician; if changes are required, they go back to the ICU.

Shift & Scheduling:
Three shifts in a row may be allowed but are not guaranteed; travelers must be flexible.
Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule.
Travelers are expected to work into the holiday rotation.

Floating Requirements:
May float to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W.
