Travel Nurse (RN) - Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Required Skills/Experience:
Must have experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, and various drains/surgical sites.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
3+ years of experience, previous travel experience, and experience in a very busy hospital preferred.

Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained.
Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility.

Unit Details:
Patient ratios are 1:2 or 1:3 depending on downgrade, acuity, or emergency admits (infrequent when staffed).
Common patient populations/cases include liver and kidney transplant, vascular surgeries such as endarterectomies and fem-pop bypasses, ENT cancer cases, facial flaps, throat cancer resection, complicated throat/esophageal infections that compromise the airway, colectomy, ex-laps, abdominal aneurysm, mastectomy, and deep tissue flaps.
RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene.
Charge nurse is preferably free charge, but currently takes a full assignment depending on staffing.
Nurse aides/PCT support is intermittent and dependent on census; when present, the ratio is 1:12 and duties include ADLs, blood glucose checks, and transport assist.
Intensivists are on unit days and/or nights, and APPs are on the unit 24/7.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7.
RNs are not generally expected to manage vents, CPAP, BiPAP, or high flow beyond troubleshooting.
There are no tele techs; RNs read their own strips using Philips monitors.

Shift & Scheduling:
Scheduled based on unit needs; no self-scheduling.
Every other weekend required.
Weekend requirement is 4-6 days in 6 weeks depending on coverage.
May be flexed off if census is low. Standby occurs only if the unit closes for low census and is rare, about once per year.

Floating Requirements:
First to float, then OT floats, then the remainder of staff. Float to other ICUs within the hospital; skill set will be considered for assignment.
