Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers not accepted. Will consider candidates with 1.5 years of ED experience excluding travel if they also have 2 years of experience outside of ED. Experience with all listed patient types required. ESI assessments during triage.
Preferred Skills/Experience: 2 years of ED experience excluding travel experience preferred.
Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler. Time-off requests require manager approval. No time-off requests will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually.
Unit Details: 150-180 patients seen daily. Vertical care area may be used as a waiting room/holding area to start care, for ESI 3 and ESI 4 patients, or as a 6th and 7th higher-acuity pod depending on ED flow. Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics, including minor to critical patients with sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, and GI bleeds requiring emergent blood products and banding. Heavy trauma population at a Level 2 trauma center, including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls. Complete stroke center; can take patients with stroke symptoms up to 24 hours. Travelers are expected to care for sexual assault patients and are responsible for evidence collection in rotation with permanent staff; no pelvic exams. Responsibilities include buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and interviewing victims. A Sexual Assault Quality Coordinator is available 24/7 for support, and CRNs and other staff can assist. Cares for critically ill pediatric patients. Cares for multiple cardiac patients and has a cardiac catheterization lab. May be expected to precept students. Uses Omnicell and Alaris.
Shift & Scheduling: Variable shift options: 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700. If working variable shifts, will not work both days and nights in the same week. Could potentially work every weekend, depending on staffing needs. No call. Holidays only if needed.
Floating Requirements: Could float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas only as a task nurse, not to take an assignment. Float within scope of practice only.
